Digital Rights Ireland (DRI) is een Ierse belangenbehartiger – en lobbygroep – voor digitale rechten. Zij roepen Facebook-gebruikers, die getroffen zijn door het jongste datalek, op om deel te nemen aan een collectieve juridische procedure tegen het social netwerk.  

In April 2021, computer files containing personal details of 533 million Facebook users were released on the Internet. The files included information of Facebook IDs, location, mobile phone numbers, email address, relationship status and employer.

 

Rechtszaak

Zij nodigen getroffen Facebook-gebruikers in heel Europa uit om deel te nemen aan een rechtszaak. Deze is te bereiken via facebookbreach.eu. DRI is van plan het bedrijf aan te klagen om de schade voor de getroffen gebruikers vergoed te krijgen en is uniek voor juridische acties tegen technologiegiganten in Europa.

De zaak zal voor duizenden Facebook-gebruikers worden ingediend bij Ierse rechtbanken. De DPI heeft een klacht ingediend bij de Ierse Data Protection Commission (DPC) en is nu van plan juridische stappen te ondernemen bij de rechtbanken.
